District Mission Statement
The Mount Horeb Area School District, in partnership with the community, is dedicated to nurturing, educating and challenging all students; preparing and empowering them to be productive, responsible and self-fulfilled members of society.
Board of Education's Anti-Racism & Equity Statement
Educational equity means that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential.*
The Mount Horeb Area School District is committed to establishing and sustaining an equitable school community. We condemn all forms of systemic and institutional racism, hate speech, bigotry, and all forms of discrimination.
The Mount Horeb Area School District, like many other districts in the state and country, has equity issues that need to be addressed. As a district, academic and social-emotional growth are key components of our strategic plan. In our strategic plan, we state that all students and the district are committed to ensuring that all means all. Every student deserves an educational environment in which they can achieve their full potential without having to encounter systemic roadblocks.
The experiences of our students must be heard and our district must take action to resolve these issues and commit to being equitable educators. The district is committed to four action steps:
1. Create an equity team that focuses on social justice and racial equity. Create an action plan and complete the recommended steps.
2. Listen to student voices (past and present), and based on their experiences, make recommendations to the equity team.
3. Review curriculum to ensure that lessons contain accurate historical and contextual teaching on social and racial injustice.
4. Plan and implement professional development for all staff on implicit bias, racial equity, microaggressions, an inclusive curriculum, and anti-racism.
